Each year Jacques and Wynand from Winning Wines Consultancy craft a select range of wines, not available commercially, under their private label – Patina.
Grape varieties vary annually, depending on the selection of uncommon, smaller vineyards they have access to. However, expect to find a selection typically including shiraz, chardonnay, and superior blends.
The name Patina originates from the thin layer that forms on the surface of certain materials over time, typically due to exposure to environmental elements, oxidation, or aging. The term is often associated with metals, especially copper, bronze, and brass. Patina is valued in art and antiques because it can contribute to an item’s character, authenticity, and aesthetic appeal. It can also be symbolic of the passage of time, endurance, and the history of an object – in this case distinctive wines – and is considered to enhance beauty and uniqueness.
